DOG OWNERS:

Heartworm Disease In The Coachella Valley

Be advised that, for the first time, canine heartworm disease has been diagnosed in a family of dogs living in Thermal, California – east of Indio.  While this is not a cause for panic (nine cases does not constitute a pandemic!) it should be taken into consideration for every dog owner.

Beginning June 23, 2009, Country Club Animal Clinic will be adding a heartworm screening test to every blood panel submitted to our lab, at an added cost of $19.25.  This test may be done by itself at a cost of $24.50.

Any dog that tests negative, or has had a negative heartworm test within the past 6 months, may initiate a heartworm preventive.  This is a chewable monthly medication that is considered extremely safe in almost every dog.

Please ask any staff member for more information on this program.  For more about canine heartworm disease, visit The Heartworm Society's information page
